CUED Speech is a visual-linguistic approach to language acquisition. The CUED Speech method is designed to develop language skills by way of visual cues. In this manner, the basic building block of language acquisition (phonemes) are learned. CUED Speech operates in three movements: eight hand shapes representing consonant phonemes, four placements representing vowel phonemes, with both of these accompanied by mouth shapes. CUED Speech is a relatively easy system to learn and proficiency is easily gained with practice. CUED Speech is an excellent learning tool and is particularly suited for people with hearing impairments or auditory processing problems. SEPS offers workshops throughout the year to teach CUED Speech to the parents and extended family of students.
